Szechuan House Chinese Restaurant

In the restaurant industry, businesses come and go in the blink of an eye. One-third of new businesses will fail during the first two years, and from those that survive, about two-third will fail before reaching the ten-year mark. Szechuan House has remained in business for over 33 years in the same location and with the same owners—my mom and dad! Great Chinese food? You better believe it!

Here’s an homage to Szechuan house, the best Chinese Restaurant in San Diego. If longevity (壽) means anything, it carries special significance for the Chinese, who have been mixing ingredients over the course of their 5000-year history. What a remarkable feat for Szechuan House to have the staying power that it's had. I’d like to take this moment to thank every customer who has ever patronized Szechuan House. My hope is that you will continue to dine out there to enjoy some of the best that Chinese food and culture have to offer.

Szechuan House well wishes

I’ve always thought of Szechuan House as the quintessential hole in the wall—tasty, casual, hidden. The type of restaurant Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern would surely appreciate. Here, the servers (yours truly included) still don bow-ties and hand-write orders, providing some old-school charm. The Chinese lanterns, red tablecloths, and wall panels depicting traditional Chinese landscapes, provides the perfect setting for enjoying Chinese food. “Whoa, we’re back in China!” you’d say as you glance at the terra-cotta soldiers on guard.
